Zafar Iqbal’s laughter, singing, acting are all alive with us: Babita

When I think of the actor Zafar Iqbal, a remarkable person first appears in front of me. Just as he won the hearts of the audience as a hero, he was very humane as a co-star. Our duo was well received by the audience, which people still remember. Together we acted in about forty movies. Every work experience is different, every memory is precious. Zafar Iqbal had an innate beauty that endeared him beyond the screen.

He was handsome, could sing with the guitar very well. Sometimes English songs, sometimes Bengali tunes would keep the set moving between shootings. The body was not good then, he suffered from various ailments, but he never revealed it on the set. He used to work with a smile, as if nothing had happened. In this place he was truly exceptional. Our acting ‘Abujh Hriday’ was a super hit movie. The shoot was in Bangkok, Champa was with us. A love triangle story, and there were lots of laughs and jokes during the shoot. Even today, the audience watches the movie with interest when it airs on television.

Zafar Iqbal’s acting, dialogue style, eye language – everything is still embedded in people’s minds. My first film with him was ‘Mama Bhagne’. Then with ‘Harjit’ I got the love of the audience. The songs from these early films of our duo were amazing, which people hum even today. Zafar Iqbal is still called evergreen hero, this is his recognition. As a person he was very polite, elegant and compassionate.

I have never seen him abuse anyone’s name or misbehave with anyone. Today is his death anniversary. On this day we remember him with deep respect. He is gone, but his laughter, singing, acting and humanity are still alive with us. The love of the audience that took him to the heights that few artists have achieved. In his personal life, this man was restrained and did not like to stir things up. Work was his identity.

Romantic hero on screen, dutiful colleague in reality – the beauty of this duality fascinates me even today. Times change, generations change,But some memories remain indelible. The mere mention of his name rekindles those memories. So, on the day of his passing, we not only mourn but also give thanks. He taught us politeness, professionalism and honesty towards art.

This teaching will guide us in the days to come, keep the light burning, silently. I once again pay my respects to him by writing this remembrance,Love and pray that he shines forever in people’s hearts. Because he is an integral part of our cinema history. There is no way to deny this fact even today.
