Strong condemnation and protest against the arrest of journalist Nurul Hossain without any crime

The incident of arresting Teknaf Upazila Press Club president and senior journalist Nurul Hossain without any crime and sending him to prison has caused intense anger and deep concern in the journalist community. Citing this incident as a direct attack on independent journalism and freedom of expression, journalist leaders condemned and protested nationwide.

According to local sources, journalist Nurul Hossain was arrested and sent to court without any specific complaint or acceptable reason. According to those concerned, this arrest is not against just one person; Rather, it is an attempt to intimidate the entire journalistic society and democratic rights.

Teknaf Upazila Press Club along with the leaders of various journalist organizations said in a joint statement.
“Journalist Nurul Hossain has been doing journalism with integrity, professionalism and responsibility for a long time. Such unjust and deliberate arrest against him is a bad sign for democracy and freedom of press.”

The statement further said that the unconditional release of Nurul Hossain must be ensured immediately and the culture of false and baseless cases filed to harass journalists must be stopped. Otherwise, the protest will be strengthened through larger movements and programs, warned journalist leaders.
