Wife lost nomination in Kurigram-4 seat on husband’s appeal
After the appeal of Jatiya Party’s nominated candidate KM Fazlul Mandal in Kurigram-4 parliamentary seat, his wife’s Bangladesh Supreme Party-supported candidate was removed. The Election Commission has announced the cancellation of Shefali Begum’s candidature.
The valid nomination of Shefali Begum given by the returning officer was canceled following the appeal of KM Fazlul Mandal at the appeal hearing held at the Agargaon election building in the capital on Wednesday (January 14).
Earlier, both husband and wife collected and submitted nomination papers from separate political parties from Kurigram-4 (Chilmari, Roumari and Rajibpur) constituencies to participate in the 13th National Assembly elections. After scrutiny, the returning officer initially declared both nominations valid.
As husband and wife are candidates from different political parties in the same parliamentary seat, there is a lot of curiosity and discussion among local politics and voters.
In the appeal hearing, KM Fazlul Mondal claimed that there was a separation in their married life. Deleted however. Shefali Begum denied this claim and said that legally KM Fazlul Mondal is still her husband. Their marital relationship is still legally valid even though there has been family discord for a long time.
As a result of this decision of the Election Commission, Kurigram-Political analysts feel that a new dimension has been added to the electoral equation of 4 seats.
