Demands for Christie Noem’s resignation and impeachment are getting stronger.

Calls for the resignation and impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristy Noem are intensifying. Eight other Democratic members of Congress joined the motion to impeach Noem after the shooting death of federal agent Alex Pretty. The total number of co-supporters has increased to 120. Khabar Ibn News.
A spokesman for Illinois state representative Robin Kelly’s office confirmed the news. Earlier, as of January 20, 2026, the proposal had the support of 100 Democrats. Support has reportedly risen sharply in recent days as debate over immigration enforcement has intensified.
Thousands of federal officials have been deployed to Minnesota as part of the administration’s so-called “Operation Metro Surge.” Political pressure against Noem is increasing amid criticism across the country.
On Sunday, the Democratic Party directly demanded Noem’s impeachment in a post on social media.
Meanwhile, questions have also been raised about the role of the Department of Homeland Security after two US citizens were killed in Minneapolis. Representative Benny Thompson of Mississippi said he would support Noem’s impeachment. In a statement, he said the killing of Alex Pretty was “horrific” and that the administration and Noem were responsible.
He alleged that former President Donald Trump and Christie Noem were deliberately encouraging chaos and violence.
In addition, several Democratic leaders have demanded Noem’s immediate resignation. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida said the Department of Homeland Security is telling the public “not to believe their eyes” and that they cannot be trusted to conduct impartial investigations into the killings.
Senator Michael Bennett of Colorado said federal agents should be removed from the cities immediately and Noem should resign. Vermont Senator Peter Welch called Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) a “paramilitary force”.
Senator Jackie Rosen of Nevada complained Noem had lost control of his department andIce’s recent actions are proof of that. He said the attempt to mislead the public about Alex Pretty’s murder was “disgraceful” and that Noem should be immediately impeached and removed from office.
New York Governor Kathy Hokul, California Governor Gavin Newsom and several other members of Congress are among the Democrats demanding Noem’s resignation.
Notably, Noem claimed that after Pretty was killed, he approached Border Patrol agents armed and resisted violently when interrupted. But that claim was not clearly reflected in the video captured by the eyewitnesses. Local authorities said Prety was legally allowed to carry arms.
Earlier this month, a woman named Renee Nicole Goode was also shot and killed by a federal officer. Noam Good claimed to be ‘involved in domestic terrorism’ in the incident, but his interpretation of the video and eyewitness accounts has been questioned.
In this situation, several Democratic senators said that they will not vote for any budget bill that allocates money for the Department of Homeland Security. If the bill is not passed by the end of the month, there are fears that the US government could partially shut down.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also said the DHS-Democrats would not provide the necessary support to advance an appropriations bill if it included funding.
