Online gambling master agent arrested 2 in Saghata, Gaibandha town’s ‘casino kings’ out of reach

Police arrested two persons including a master agent for their involvement in online gambling in Saghata upazila of Gaibandha. However, the locals allege that the masterminds of the city-centred casino chain of the district are still out of reach.

According to Saghata police station, (May 5th) raid was conducted in Saghata police station area on Tuesday afternoon based on secret information. At that time, two people were arrested for being involved in online gambling.

* The arrestees are Shafin Ahmed Bipul (33) Father: Md. Afzal Hossain, Village: Hasilkandi, Saghata, Gaibandha. Shri Palash Chandra Ghosh 32*, Father: Late Indrajit Chandra Ghosh, Village: Jharavarsha, Sagata, Gaibandha.

According to the police, Shafin Ahmed Bipul admitted to working as a master agent of online gambling among those arrested during preliminary interrogation. They had been operating illegal online gambling activities in the area for a long time.

Saghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge OC said, “Case proceedings are underway against the arrested under the Digital Security Act. After interrogation, they will be handed over to the court.”

Locals complain that the main ’emperors’ involved in the online gambling and casino business in Gaibandha remain untouchable as they are influential. It is not possible to eradicate this cycle just by arresting the field level agents. They believe that the spread of online gambling is pushing the youth towards destruction.If such regular operations continue, the conscious community hopes that there will be a positive impact on crime prevention.
