A fire incident occurred in the homestead of Md. Kalam Mir, a resident of Sadar Union of Khulna Dighlia Upazila. As a result of the fire, everything including the homestead was burnt to ashes.
According to local residents and fire service sources, the fire incident took place in the homestead of Kalam, adjacent to the community clinic of Deyara Kahinur government primary school ground of Sadar Union of Dighlia upazila. Fire Station Dighlia ground officer in charge Sheikh Azim told this reporter that when a person came from the area on foot and gave the information, they quickly went to the spot and tried to control the fire. It took 1 hour to bring the fire under control due to water shortage. Officer-in-charge of Dighlia fire station Sheikh Azim told this reporter that the fire may have occurred due to short circuit and the amount of damage is approximately 2 lakhs. He also said that after the fire incident, he came from there on foot and gave the news and immediately reached the spot with 2 fire fighting units. Had there not been a delay in news and water shortage in the area, the fire could have been brought under control sooner. It is noted that the owner of the house is Md. Kalam Mir, a tea shopkeeper of Deyara Kheyaghat. He told this reporter that I am seeking help from the local MP and administration so that I can build my damaged house. The leaders of voluntary social organizations of the area have called upon all local rich people to come forward. It is reported that some people in the area diverted the incident and made futile attempts to catch fish in the murky waters. It is to be noted that a fire incident also took place in the house of Kazi Mizan in Formishkhana Pal Para area of Dighlia upazila in the last week of last month. There are more fire incidents in this season in the area. But the water shortage in the area is very high. There is no water except Bhairav river in western area and Atai river in eastern side. Dighlia Fire Service is suffering from water shortage due to long closure of Swiss Gate of Nak Kati Canal. Inspite of sincerity, fire fighting is hampered due to lack of water.
