2 children drowned in the pond in Sreepur!

Two children named Jihad and Sweety died after drowning in pond water in Sreepur, Gazipur. These incidents took place in the Gazipur Union of the upazila around noon on Friday (May 8).
Deceased Jihad (6) is the son of Zakir Hossain, a resident of Nagar Howla village of the upazila. He was a child class student of Nagar Howla Government Primary School.
On the other hand, the deceased Sweety (14) is the daughter of Rafiqul Islam of Sakhua village of Trishal upazila in Mymensingh. The family had been living in a rented house in Dakshin Dhanua area of ​​Sreepur Upazila for 11 years. Both his parents worked in local garments. Sweetie was reportedly speech impaired.
According to the deceased’s relatives and local sources, Jihad accidentally fell into the water while playing in the pond near the house around 12 noon on Friday. After a long search, the family members suspected that they had found his shoe on the pond. Later, with the help of locals, he was rescued from the pond and rushed to Al Baraka Hospital in Jaina Bazar, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Meanwhile, at the same time, Sweety went to take a bath with her friends in the Dakshina Dhanua area. At that time, while trying to save a child who was with him, he drowned under the water. After a long time, when a local farmer rescued him, he was found dead.

Locals complain that the ponds near the school have been unprotected for a long time. The lack of safety fences or walls around the ponds poses a major risk to children. They demanded immediate safety measures in the vulnerable ponds to avoid such accidents in the future.
Officer-in-charge of Sreepur police station OC Mohammad Nasir Ahmed told Sangbadin, ‘The police were sent there on the news that a child had died after drowning in the pond. The body was handed over without post-mortem on the request of the relatives. however,No one informed us about the death of the teenager. I can find out later.’
