Rape on the lure of marriage: Women journalists demand human chain, organizational measures against Khondkar Alamgir Hossain

The journalist leader Khondkar Alamgir Hossain’s moral lapse, rape and long-term harassment of the victim woman by luring her into marriage have caused a strong reaction in the journalist community. A scandalous chapter has been written in the journalistic society through such obscene and character-shaming activities as alleged by women journalists.

In protest of these incidents, a human chain under the banner of “Women Journalist Unity” was held in front of Dhaka’s National Press Club at 10:30 am on Monday (May 25).

Convener of the organization Ayesha Siddika and member secretary Jasmine Jui spoke at the human chain.

In her speech, Jasmine Zooey said, “If such a stigmatized person is associated with traditional organizations like the National Press Club and the Dhaka Journalist Union, then women journalists feel alarmed and scared.”

He also said that it is necessary to take quick organizational measures against Khondkar Alamgir Hossain to protect the dignity of journalistic society. Speakers from the human chain demanded that necessary action be taken against the accused subject to investigation.
