Government Moving Toward Solutions to Ease BRT Project Suffering: Gazipur DC

The government is moving towards effective solutions to reduce the long-standing public suffering caused by the much-discussed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway, according to Gazipur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan. He said that the project’s complexities and the hardships faced by commuters are receiving serious attention at the highest levels of government.

Speaking at an Eid-ul-Adha greetings exchange program with print, electronic, and online media professionals held Monday afternoon (June 1) at the Bhawal Conference Hall of the Gazipur District Council, the DC said that the government is actively working to address the issues surrounding the project. Senior district administration officials were also present at the event.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that the BRT project was discussed in detail at the recent Deputy Commissioners’ Conference. He noted that senior officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges recently visited Gazipur to assess the project’s progress and challenges firsthand. Coordination among the relevant agencies has also been strengthened to expedite the completion of the work, he added.

He further said that he has already gained an understanding of Gazipur’s key challenges and development opportunities. However, ensuring the district’s overall progress requires objective and responsible cooperation from the media. The district administration is working to address existing problems while also promoting sectors with strong development potential.

Among those present at the event were Deputy Director of the Local Government Division Ahmad Hossain Bhuiyan, Additional District Magistrate Salma Khatun, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development and Human Resource Management) Tania Tabassum, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shahriar Nazir,and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Md. Rakibul Hasan, along with other district administration officials. Journalists representing various media outlets operating in Gazipur also attended the program.
