Protests were set on fire on Baghaichhari road as the hill minister’s resignation was not accepted

Demonstrations and protest rallies were held at Baghaichari in Rangamati to protest the demand for the resignation of Hon’ble Minister of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry Deepen Dewan.

On Monday (May 01) afternoon, the program was held on the important road of the upazila Sadar under the banner “People of all levels of Baghaichhari Upazila”. People of different classes and professions participate in it.

The protest procession went around the different roads of the upazila and came to the main road to meet in the rally. At this time, the participants raised various slogans including “Minister Dipen Dewan’s resignation Mani Na, Manbo Na”. Later they protested by burning tires on the road and condemned and protested the resignation demands raised against the minister.

Speakers in the gathering said that Minister Deepen Dewan has made important contributions in the development, education, health, communication and public welfare activities of the hilly region. They claim that the demand for resignation against him is not a reflection of the aspirations of the hill dwellers.

The speakers also said that the leadership of Minister Deepen Dewan is needed to continue the ongoing development activities of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Therefore, they called for the withdrawal of any demand for his resignation.

It is to be noted that Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Deepen Dewan submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister on Monday (June 1) citing physical illness. In his resignation letter, he mentioned that he has been suffering from various physical complications since taking charge of the ministry.As a result of which problems are being faced in performing regular duties properly. In this situation, in order to maintain the speed of the government’s activities, he requested to be relieved of his duties.
