Allegations of land grabbing in Badarkhali, residents in fear

In Patakata village of Badarkhali Union No. 1 of Barguna Sadar Upazila, there has been a sensation in the area based on the complaint of land grabbing. Allegations have been made against some local people of trying to take over ancestral land through influence and spreading fear among the local people.
Motaleb Chowkidar, Mosharef Hung, Nasir, Chobahan, Chohraf, Shahalam, Ruhul and others have been accused in the complaint. All of them are residents of Patakata village of the same union.
The victims claim that the accused have been trying to occupy the land of common people by expanding their influence in the area for a long time. Especially against one named Ruhul, the locals comment, “horse ferrying by day, land grabbing by night” – because of such activities there is fear and anxiety in the area.
Idris, the victim, said that their paternal usufructuary land registration number is 377 and 281, dag number is 1892 and 1893. They have been living in a homestead for many years on about two acres of 26 percent land. He alleged that recently the accused are creating fear and pressure in various ways to occupy the land.
He also said that we are currently living in fear with our family. Any time can harm us.
Locals complain that the accused do not want to accept any arbitration meeting or social decision. This has created insecurity among the common people. There is intense anger in the area over the matter.
Local conscious circles say that if the administration does not intervene quickly, the situation may become more heated. They demanded legal action against the culprits through an impartial investigation.
Attempts were made to take the statements of the accused in this regard, but they could not be contacted.
Officer-in-charge of Barguna Sadar police station Abdul Alim said that a complaint has been received at the police station. Necessary legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
