BASAD (Marxist) protest rally against child deaths in Measles demanding prompt identification and treatment of measles patients and punishment of those involved in mismanagement of vaccination and treatment

Yesterday at 4 pm, a demonstration was held in front of the National Press Club to protest against the death of children in Hame by the initiative of the Bangladesh Socialist Party (Marxist). Comrade Jaydeep Bhattacharya, member of the executive forum of the party, Comrade Seema Dutta and others spoke in the meeting held under the chairmanship of the party’s central coordinator Comrade Masud Rana.

Speakers said, “409 children have died of measles so far, nearly half a million children have been affected. The current situation is due to lack of vaccination during the interim government, lack of proper vitamin A campaign, lack of adequate preparation despite the early warnings of the World Health Organization. Even after the dire situation, the government has not declared any health emergency, nor are they taking any measures that should be taken on an emergency basis. As a result, parents are left empty-handed every day. The lower class and poor people are the most. They are suffering because the children of these families are the most affected by malnutrition on the one hand, and lack of vitamin A campaign on the other.We demand punishment of those responsible for not providing proper vaccination and not taking proper action after the outbreak of measles. We demand that the health system be organized from the upazila to the central level for quick identification and treatment of affected patients. At the same time, I demand to set up ‘measles corner’ in every hospital.
