On the morning of May 18, two teenage gunmen attempted to attack an Islamic center (mosque) in San Diego, California, USA.

Security guard Amin Abdullah, who was there during the attack, stood in front and tried to stop them. His action averted a major loss of life and saved many lives, including many children. The San Diego Police Commissioner later called him a “hero”.

But Amin Abdullah was killed by the attackers. He was the security guard of the largest mosque in San Diego County. Two teenage attackers committed suicide after the attack. Police Chief Scott Wahl said many lives were saved because of Amin’s bravery.

👉 Amin Abdullah’s former colleague Kashif ul Huda recounted his memories and said that Amin was a very compassionate person and always ready to help others. He used to work in a dental office, where he greeted people with a smile, although his demeanor was endearing to all.

Kashif also said that Amin had a keen interest in uniformed security and policemen and had a dream of becoming a security officer—which he later realized. He said Amin used to help others mentally even in difficult times of life and tried to keep people normal.

Regarding family and personal life, Kashif said, Amin was the son of an African-American mother and was known as a Muslim and an American. As he has seen the development of the Muslim community in the United States, he has also witnessed Islamophobia and violence.

According to Kashif, it was during their last meeting after almost 20 years that he saw Amin, who was fulfilling his dream of working as a security guard. His name is “Amin” (meaning:Faithful) – he ultimately sacrifices his life to save the lives of others.
