Mother of two children killed by poison in Rangpur

It has been alleged that Arjina Begum (30), a mother of two children, was beaten to death by her husband and in-laws and poisoned in her mouth in Dalshingpur area of Bhangni Union of Rangpur’s Mithapukur Upazila.
This heartbreaking incident happened last December 3, Wednesday evening. Ershad Hossain, the elder brother of the victim, filed a case at the Mithapukur police station accusing four people in this incident. The incident created a sensation in the area.

According to Ezahar and the deceased’s family, about 10 years ago Shahadat Hossain, son of Bulu Mia of Dalshingpur area of ​​Mithapukur upazila, got married to Arjina Begum, daughter of Azizul Islam of Sadra taluk Baherhat area of ​​Kaunia upazila. They have a son of 8 years and another child of only 75 days in their marriage.

According to the family, for the last six months, husband Shahadat Hossain used to pressurize her to bring dowry money from Arjina’s father’s house on various pretexts. He used to abuse his wife physically and mentally despite paying money several times. Arjina’s younger brother Ripon Islam said, “Even when my sister was pregnant, the in-laws used to beat her unnecessarily. Due to that torture, she was seriously injured at one point and was admitted to the hospital.”

Argina gave birth to her second child while undergoing treatment in the hospital. After that, she returned to her in-laws home with the child and saw that the husband Shahadat Hossain had taken a young woman named Akhi Moni from Mymensingh district as his second wife. After that, conflicts often arise in the family.

According to the family, on the afternoon of the incident, Shahadat, his second wife Akhi Moni and in-laws beat up Arjina. At one point, Shahadat and Akhi Moni bring a bottle of pesticide from the house and forcefully pour it on Arjeena’s face. Argina fell on the ground. Later he was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital after a dramatic attempt was made to take him to Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex but failed. After reaching there, the doctor declared him dead.

Allegedly, the husband and his accomplices left the body at the hospital and fled and told the family on phone that Arjeena was ill.

On the evening of December 4, Argina’s elder brother,Family members, including a younger brother and sister-in-law, reached the hospital and found her frozen body lying on the bed—no one around.

Mithapukur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ferdous Wahid said, “We quickly went to the spot after getting information about the incident. A case has been registered against the accused as the investigation found evidence of murder. An operation is underway to arrest the accused.

After the post-mortem, the burial of deceased Argina was completed on Friday, December 5. His death was deeply mourned throughout the area. The atmosphere became heavy with the cries of the family with the newborn of only two and a half months.

The victim’s elder brother Ershad Hossain, younger brother Ripon and sister-in-law Laili Begum said that Argina is an educated woman with honors-masters degree. They demanded the speedy arrest and exemplary punishment of Shahadat Hossain and his associates.
