Boro paddy washed away by early flood in Singra, farmers distraught

Incessant rains and landslides have caused flash floods in large areas bordering Chalanbil including Belbarari, Sarishabari and Paril of Dahia Union of Singra Upazila of Natore. In this, farmers’ dream of Bri rice-29 varieties of Boro rice has sunk under water.

According to local sources, due to the sudden rise in water, the ripe paddy of about 250 farmers of several hundred bighas of land has been submerged in water. Many farmers are preparing to harvest paddy but before that they are facing severe losses as the land is flooded.

The affected farmers said that the whole year’s hard work and investment went under water in an instant. It hit them in the head. Some had farmed on loan, now they are worried about repaying that loan.

Local residents demand that government aid and incentives should be announced for farmers after accurate calculation of damages. They also urged to take necessary measures to deal with such situations in the future.

In this regard, local agricultural officials said,List of affected areas is being prepared and report will be sent to higher authorities.
