In Juri Upazila of Moulvibazar, 13 cows and 1 buffalo of a family of tea workers died due to lightning. In this sudden incident, some tea worker families have faced a big financial loss. The incident took place in Kuchai Jlai and Pathartila villages of Goalbari Union of Upazila on Wednesday (June 3) afternoon.

According to local sources, several rounds of lightning occurred in the area on Wednesday afternoon with storms and rains. At that time, 13 cows and 1 buffalo of the tea workers’ family grazing in the field died on the spot due to the lightning strike. The families affected by this sudden natural calamity have experienced grief and despair.

According to locals, the dead cattle were one of the main sources of income for these families. Many families made a living by selling milk and rearing cattle. Families are thrown into extreme uncertainty as their vital assets are lost in an instant.

Local residents said that most of the victims are low-income tea workers. They were trying to improve their financial condition by rearing cattle for a long time. But their dream suffered a big blow in the lightning incident.

After the incident, local public representatives and residents demanded immediate government assistance for the affected families. According to them, financial assistance and rehabilitation assistance is urgently needed to compensate the loss of these poor and needy families.

Locals also said that the loss of livestock has not only caused financial loss, but the future livelihood of many families has also been threatened. Therefore, urgent action is necessary from a humanitarian point of view.

In this regard, Juri Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mushfiqin Noor said, “I have heard the incident. The government will try to help in this regard.”
