
Son-in-law died of electrocution while picking mangoes at his in-laws’ house
A young man named Shafiqul Islam (26) tragically died after being electrocuted while picking mangoes at his in-laws’ house in Sundarganj Upazila of Gaibandha. The incident cast a shadow of grief in the area.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sundarganj Police Station Shahin Mohammad Amanullah confirmed the matter on Wednesday (June 3) morning.
The deceased Shafiqul Islam is the son of Rashidul Islam of Madhya Bhanga Mor area of Damodarpur Union of Sadullapur Upazila. He was the son-in-law of Manik Mia, a resident of the area adjacent to Khangua Bridge in West Ramjivan village of Ramjivan union of Sundarganj upazila.
According to local sources, Shafiqul Islam came to his father-in-law’s house to cut rice. On Tuesday (June 2) evening, he was plucking mangoes from a mango tree near the house of his paternal father-in-law, Ayaz Uddin. At that time, when trying to lay a mango using a bamboo stick, it inadvertently came into contact with an 11,000 volt electric wire passing by.
The bamboo immediately caught fire and Shafiqul Islam was electrocuted and hung from the tree. Seeing the incident, the people around were panicked and quickly informed the rural electricity office. Later, when the electricity connection was cut off, the locals tried to rescue him and take him to Sundarganj Upazila Health Complex. But he died on the way to the hospital.
In this regard, Sundarganj police station OC Shahin Mohammad Amanullah said,The incident has been registered as non-fatal. The body was handed over to the relatives after the legal process as there was no complaint by the family.
