Dhamirhat protest against rural electricity demand, human chain held.

On Friday, June 5, a complaint was filed against the AGM of Palli Vidyut Samiti along with three officials of the AGM of Palli Vidyut Samiti by falsely opening the electricity meter of a customer and demanding Tk 160,000.

According to the source of the victim’s complaint, the electricity connection meter of local businessman Zahidul Islam Bhuttu’s paddy mill was taken off last Tuesday by lying. Later, Zahidul repeatedly contacted the office and could not get his meter re-installed, as a result of which the mill, his only source of income, was closed and he was in dire financial straits.

A human chain was organized in front of the main gate of Dhamirhat Upazila Parishad on the initiative of the local people on Friday morning to protest this incident and demand a quick solution. The participants in the human chain complained that some dishonest officials have been harassing customers in various ways for a long time. They demanded an immediate fair investigation into the incident and legal action against those responsible and pending co-operation.

Speakers in the human chain said that unjust and corrupt behavior with common people should be stopped. At the same time, they also demanded that Jahidul Islam Bhuttu should restore electricity connection quickly.Although the accused officials were repeatedly contacted for their statements, the mobile phone used by him was found to be switched off. However, there is a lot of anger among the local people about the complaint.
