Fishermen refraining from fishing!

Under the Upazila Hilsa Resources Development and Management Project (2nd Revised), food items have been distributed among the fishermen who refrained from fishing during the month of March-April in Hilsa Abhayshram.
On Wednesday (May 6), these food items were distributed among the fishermen at the Upazila Parishad premises. Five hundred beneficiary fishermen of the upazila got flour, dal, oil, sugar, potato and salt.
District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Iqbal Hossain announced the opening of the food distribution program, Upazila Executive Officer Rumana Afroz presided over the ceremony. He distributed all these materials among the fishermen with his own hands. Senior upazila fisheries officer Jayant Kumar Apu Charfashion, former secretary of upazila BNP Haji Motahar Hossain Alamgir Malatia, BNP leader former municipal mayor Haji Amirul Islam Mintiz, district BNP member Haji Helaluddin Tipu, former upazila youth party president Haji Ashrafur Rahman Dipu Faraji, etc. spoke.
Maulana Md Abbas Uddin Secretary Islamic Movement Bangladesh Bhola District South was also present. Upazila Jubodal leader Haji Gias Uddin, Fishery team representative Sohag along with Coast Guard officials and related department officials and local political leaders participated in the event.
UNO Rumana Afroz said, hilsa is our and country’s wealth. This resource must be protected. As fishermen refrained from harvesting hilsa during the last 2 months of prohibition, no one will catch fish when the government bans it. He also said that every year the government gives incentives to fishermen such as cows and goats. Food assistance has been given again this year.
Besides, the invited speakers said in their speech that to increase the production of hilsa and to keep the shelters safe, fishing should be stopped at the specified time. The government is providing this kind of humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of the fishermen. They urged fishermen to abide by the law and cooperate with the administration to protect national resources. They expressed hope that this assistance will bring relief to the families of marginal fishermen.
Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Jayant Kumar Apu said,Under our Hilsa Resource Development and Management Project (2nd Revised), food items 12 kg flour, 8 kg dal, 4 kg sugar, 4 kg salt, 16 kg potato and 10 liter oil have been distributed to five hundred beneficiary fishermen.
