‘Alleged Journalist’ Chapal Arrested in Rajshahir

An alleged journalist named Mazharul Islam Chopal has been arrested by police in Rajshahi’s Mohanpur in a fraud case. He was arrested on June 2 (Tuesday) around 4 pm from Bidirpur area of ​​Mohanpur police station.
The arrested Mazharul Islam is the son of deceased Mahbub Alam of Chapal Bidirpur area.

According to the sources of the case, Chapal is the accused accused in a fraud case (Section 420/406) of Chandrima police station of Rajshahi city. A case was filed in the court alleging that the plaintiff had been cheated of Rs 7 lakhs. After the case, the learned court issued an arrest warrant against the accused Chapal. Since then he was absconding for a long time. Today Mohanpur Thana Police conducted a raid based on secret information and managed to arrest him.

According to the investigation, there is a long record of criminal activities against the alleged journalist Mazharul Islam Chapal. A murder case was registered against him in 2008 (FIR No-7, Dated: 12 October 2008). Besides, there are 3 more cases against him in connection with the attack on the anti-discrimination student movement in July-August. Earlier, he was also fined Rs 2 lakh by conducting a mobile court in Rajshahi’s Bagmara.

When asked about this, Mohanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman said
​”Accused Mazharul Islam Chapal had a court warrant in a CR case of Chandrima police station. As he was absconding for a long time, operations were being conducted to arrest him. He was arrested from Bidirpur area this afternoon. Other cases of murder and assault against him are also being investigated. He will be handed over to the court after the legal process.
Ajmira Begum of Padma residential area, the plaintiff in the fraud case, said,Mazharul Islam Chapal took 7 lakhs from me through fraud. Later he gave me a check without paying. After asking for money, he threatened to identify himself as a journalist. Forced to file a fraud case in court. The court issued a warrant against him. Mohanpur police arrested him today. He was on the run for a long time.
