Rabbi Rahman
The anger and dissatisfaction of the people is increasing day by day around the allegations of corruption, irregularities and bribery against the youth development officer of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila and the administrator of Gorgram Union Parishad Md. Alamgir Hossain. Despite the assurance of investigation, no visible administrative action has been taken so far, many questions have arisen among the locals. There are allegations that unethical money has been collected in the name of money transactions, control of VGF cards and project approvals in various development projects. Local public representatives, UP members and victims claim that commission of up to 20,000 taka per lakh taka has been charged in allotment of TR, Kabikha and Kabita projects of Union Parishad. Apart from this, he has also been accused of controlling about 400 cards of the VGF program allocated on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Locals complained that regular commissions were collected from UP members during the implementation of various development projects of Gorgram Union. Several public representatives have claimed that financial transactions have been imposed as “unannounced rules” in project approvals and bill concessions. Bilkis Begum, a reserved woman member, said, I was given a project worth about 260,000 rupees. Even though the work is done, I still haven’t received the bill. At the time of awarding the project, the administrator sir took 40 thousand rupees in advance. Champa Rani, another reserved woman member said, against the project of 2 lakh 63 thousand rupees, 40 thousand rupees have also been taken from me. This is said to be due to the administrator. UP member Mashiur Rahman complained and said that for TR, Kabikha and Kabita projects, they were told that they will have to pay 20,000 rupees per lakh. A few other members including me have given money. Besides, he has also kept about 400 cards of VGF. UP members and locals blocked the accused official inside the office for about an hour to protest against irregularities and corruption in the Gorgram Union Parishad office on Thursday, March 12. After the incident, widespread discussion and criticism started in the area, but the administration did not take any immediate visible action, the locals alleged.
Meanwhile 2025-Out of the 14 training batches conducted in fiscal year 26, the trainees participating in the 7-day non-institutional training are supposed to be given an allowance of 600 taka by the government, but Upazila Youth Development Officer Md. It has been alleged that Alamgir Hossain paid only 550 rupees. According to the rules, there is a maximum revenue deduction of 10 rupees, but the victims have claimed that the excess amount has been deducted. Also, although the application for registration of an organization in Ramganj has been sent to the district office recently, there are complaints that the organization does not have its own office or permanent infrastructure. A small shop-like establishment has been recommended for registration from the Upazila Youth Development Office showing office. It also raises questions about the transparency and rules of the registration process.
Even after various local and national media reports and television reports on the matter, no investigative committee, administrative inquiry or departmental action has been seen so far. It has also raised questions in the public mind as to whether there is an attempt to cover up the whole matter or not.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mobashvira Amatullah assured an investigation in this regard, but that assurance has not yet turned into a practical action, the locals alleged. However, Sadar Upazila Youth Development Officer and Gorgram Union Parishad Administrator have denied all the charges brought against him. Alamgir Hossain. While local public representatives are openly expressing their anger over allegations of corruption,At that time, new questions are being raised about the silence and inaction of the administration in Nilphamari.
