Complaints of encroachment of Bill Bhatia by attacking and depriving fishermen, thousands of farmers fear due to illegal dam

An unscrupulous gang has been accused of forcibly occupying the country’s second largest Bill Bhatia in Chapainawabganj by attacking and suing. Fishermen on bill leases have suffered huge losses as they are unable to harvest the cultivated fish. Aggrieved fishermen protested and protested at Shibganj upazila’s Karnakhali bridge square at 11 o’clock on Saturday (June 06).

The speakers in the human chain said that Durgapur Fishermen’s Cooperative Society gets the lease of the bill according to the rules. But an unscrupulous gang has grabbed the bill by assaulting and depriving the members of the association. Since then fishermen are not able to collect fish. Even the encroachers have obstructed the free movement of water by illegally constructing dams in the canals in Kalmugara area. 2,000 acres of cropland is in danger of being submerged under water. Currently hundreds of thousands of local farmers and fishermen are in insecurity.

Jambaria Union Awami League joint general secretary Nasim member and Ward A. League member Abdul Kalam led by farmers and fishermen complained of this occupation and attack. They also said that for ages the fishing community has been making a living by extracting fish from the bill. But because of the occupiers, they are unable to do so. Fishermen were attacked and beaten with weapons. Various threats and intimidation are still being shown. Now the fishermen are living in a helpless condition.

President of Durgapur Fishermen’s Cooperative Society Aminul Islam, General Secretary Nurul Islam Kalu, member Jinnur Ali, former General Secretary Siddique Ali, Daipukuria Union Parishad member Aktarul Islam, former UP member Abdul Malek and others spoke at the human chain. Meanwhile, members of Durgapur Fishermen’s Cooperative Society,Local dignitaries and public representatives were present.
