Extortion of huge amount of money by breaking the name of A-League leaders in Demra, Khandkar Syndicate is also active in political change.

It has been alleged that a special syndicate formed with the direct support of the Awami League government for the past one and a half decades and by defaming the names of influential leaders is still active in Ward No. 68 area of the capital. Despite the political change, Kazi Mofiz, who is known as a close friend of top leaders like Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo League’s former General Secretary Rezaul Karim Reza, Central Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Dhaka Metropolitan South Volunteer League President Asaduzzaman Ripon and Dhaka-5 Constituency’s former Member of Parliament (MP) Sajal Molla, and his in-laws’ family members still maintain their activities in the area.

According to the investigation, Kazi Mofiz has been dominating Dhaka city and local areas for a long time with the identity of ‘nephew’ of Jubo League Central Committee Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil. According to local sources, Kazi Mofiz became the owner of a huge amount of illegal money by defaming Nikhil’s name during the Awami League government. There are strong rumors in the concerned circles, the huge sum of money left by Jubo League General Secretary Nikhil is currently in the custody of Kazi Mofiz.

His own brother-in-law and Jubo League leader Biplab Khandkar is working as one of the main associates of this syndicate of Kazi Mofiz. He has been operating a monopoly of water through pipelines in the area for the past 15 years through the influence of Awami League, which is still ongoing. This Biplab Khandkar, who has worked directly as a friend of Awami League for the past decade and a half, is roaming around in the area without any accountability even after the political change.

Meanwhile, Raihan Khandkar son of Milan Khandkar aka ‘Mayla Milan’ is asserting his position in the area under the umbrella of Asaduzzaman Ripon, president of Dhaka Metropolitan South Volunteer League. Raihan Khandkar has been seen leading various political rallies of Awami League in the past under the banner of Dhaka Metropolitan South Volunteer League and as a candidate for the post of president of Ward No. 68 Volunteer League. not only that,Raihan also participated in activities like distribution of relief materials in the area many times using the picture and name of President Asaduzzaman Ripon. According to the locals, this is mainly a strategy to maintain their political influence.

Evidence of direct contact of this family with Rezaul Karim Reza, General Secretary of Jubo League Dhaka Metropolitan South as part of the syndicate’s influence has been found. Jubo League leader Rezaul Karim congratulated Reza with a bouquet of flowers. Ward 68 Jubo League Vice President Arafat Khandkar. Besides, another son of Moyla Milan, Jamshed Khandkar, is serving as the Demra Thana Chhatra League leader and the vice-president of the Demra Thana Committee of Sheikh Russell Sports Chakra.

On August 5, a local resident expressed his anger about the political change and said, “Though there has been a change in the government, there has been no change in this Khandkar family. They have earned huge money in the past through the influence of Awami League, and now they are roaming around the area under the influence of Awami League, and now they are roaming around the area under the name of top leaders of BNP. Legal action should be taken against them.”

Kazi Mofiz, Biplab Khandkar, Raihan Khandkar, Jamshed Khandkar and Arafat Khandkar are still equally active in the area with the blessings of former MP Sajal Mollah, Nikhil, Reza and Ripon. Locals strongly demanded urgent intervention from the administration to look into the source of income and current activities of this political beneficiary and the cycle involved in illegal money making and embezzlement for the past one and a half decades.​
