Tarek Rahman’s tribute on the birth and death anniversary of Begum Rokeya.

On the occasion of the birth and death anniversary of Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, the pioneer of women’s awakening and a keen writer, Acting Chairman of BNP Tarek Rahman has paid deep respect to her memory. At the same time, he wished for the forgiveness of the departed soul.

Tariq Rahman said, despite growing up in a conservative environment, Begum Rokeya was a beacon ahead of time. He realized that lack of education was the main reason behind women’s backwardness in society. So she devoted herself to the spread of women’s education and the development of women’s personality.

He further said that Begum Rokeya took the first initiative to enlighten Muslim women in particular and was indomitable and steadfast in her sense of duty despite strong opposition from the orthodox conservatives of the society. Through her scathing writings, she was vocal against the discriminatory treatment and injustice towards women in the society.

Tarek Rahman said, Begum Rokeya believed that true liberation is possible only if women are educated and self-reliant. So he built a social movement and spread the message of women’s liberation overcoming all obstacles.

He expressed the hope that Begum Rokeya’s work life, ideals and speech will inspire the women’s society even today and move forward on the right path of freedom.

At the end of the speech, he said, “Allah Hafez,Long live Bangladesh.”
